Veteran Belgian Xavier Malisse, who lost the Atlanta final to Andy Roddick in 2001, is among the nineteen players in the main singles draw.
Players announced today have gained entrance into the 28-player singles draw. Among the best known are: Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia who advanced to the French Open round of 16, rising Serb Janko Tipsarevic, Benjamin Becker who ended Andre Agassi’s career at the 2006 US Open, long-time German star Rainer Schuettler and American Rajeev Ram.
Also, the 20-year-old Atlanta native, Donald Young, has received the first of three Wildcards and will be aiming to capture his first ATP title.
Among the top of the players set to qualify are four-time ATP titlist Taylor Dent and American Michael Russell. Signed up to play in qualifying are Donald Young of Atlanta, Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller, rising American Ryan Sweeting, Russian Dmitry Tursunov, 2008 Delray Beach titlist Kei Nishikori and 2009 NCAA Division-I singles champion Devin Britton of Brandon, Miss.
Nine other players will be added to the main draw, including four who will advance from qualifying.
The Atlanta Tennis Championships will feature also feature 16-team doubles draw that will be set on the day before competition begins.
